Greg was sitting idle in his car. Silent, unmoving. He hated visiting hospitals. Especially when it was a member of his family he was seeing. He gave his driver the rest of the night off, wanting to be alone. He hadn’t seen Connor since the night he told him; the night he told his son he wasn’t biologically his. Taking in a deep breath, he turned he key, started his ignition, and drove. Greg’s thoughts ran wild as he raced down the empty highway. Seeing his little boy so weak, so pained, pained him himself.
Entering the lot, he slowed his speed. Greg barley made it into the parking spot he had reserved for him before rushing through the automated doors to the elevator. Time creeped by as he waited for the lift to come; his impatience took over. He moved past the crowed of people and opened the heavy doors leading to the staircase. He couldn’t feel his feet as he soared up the stairs envisioning his son the last time he saw him in his mind’s eye. The various beeping machines and drips hooked up to him…they sent chills down his spine.
At last he found himself stopped in front of the room. Still, waiting. Waiting for what, he wasn’t sure. Possibly he was preparing himself, but he didn’t know. After a few reluctant moments, he grabbed the nob and turned it slowly, a solemn smile placed on his lips as he greeted his son.
Daddy…
Avie…I’m so, so sorry I haven’t been around. After what happend…I’m sorry.
Thank you. It will certainly beat being in your office all day.
That’s for certain.
The world fucking sucks bro. ’Bout time you realized that.
No kidding.
So I’m not the only one in this city who does that. Valuable information I suppose.
It’s Chicago. I’m sure a lot more people do it than we know.
It was just a question. Didn’t need the sarcasm. Need someone to talk to?
No offense to you, Cat, but if I’ll talk to anyone, right now, it’d be Sam. We kind of have the same “hate the world” attitude right now.
Do you need me to come home?
No, it’s fine. I’ll be fine.
I love you, Papa.
Love you too, Juliet.
Dad, come see me. I need you.
I’ll be there. I promise.
